HIV AIDS Stigma and education

Mary Bennefield 10/14/1973-1/25/2015

Mary was born October 14,1973 in Fernandina Beach, Florida. We lost our fierce advocate January 25th 2015 while she was with family in Jacksonville. Mary will be truly missed not only from the speakers bureau but from the community at large. Mary was a larger than life personality that truly made a difference in the world!

Mary Bennefield grew up the youngest of 7 children! She was raised in Yulee, FL, a small town just north of Jacksonville.  Mary was a substitute teacher in Nassau County, as well as a mentor and math/reading tutor to young children through the “Communities In Schools” program.  During her high school years, she was involved with a group “Students Against Drunk Driving”.

After being diagnosed with HIV in April 2011, Mary knew that she wanted to get involved with HIV/AIDS community.  She was a volunteer at Outreach Community Care Network; as well as a member of Positive Champions Speaker’s Bureau and also a local support group for people with HIV/AIDS!

“I am not my disease!!”
